On Saturday, June 26, I saw my first monarch. I don't know if it was male or female---I was so excited the gender didn't seem to matter. It was swooping around my "milkweed sanctuary". This "sanctuary" started out with one single milkweed stem two years ago. It was just a random stem which appeared at the base of an oak tree right next to my driveway. The next year I had eight stems, this year I have at least fifty.
