Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/06/2004

Number: 1

The temperature was 86 deg F at about 1:00 pm with winds at about 5 to 10 miles per hour going SSW with partly cloudy skies and no precipitation. The butterfly was a female with wings in good condition (brightly colored). She was a monarch for sure because I have raised monarchs and can tell the difference between a viceroy. She was nectaring on mexican milkweed and zinnias. I inspected the milkweed for eggs and larvae but none yet. This is the first monarch I have seen all summer and I have been watching almost ever day.
