We put out a floating loons nest on Georgian Bay by our cottage about 25 kilometers north of Parry Sound. The adults nested on it and 2 chicks hatched on July 23/2004! Both are healthy and are now one week old.
The adults have been around for at least seven years and this is their first successful year at having babies. The fluctuating water levels have always washed out their nests in the past.
Floating nests are definitely the way to go and we would be happy to pass on info as to how and where to build them.
