Saturday, 8-21-04 Was a sunny but cool day 60's and mid 70's by afternoon. Had several hundred monarch nectaring but virtually no observed mating behavior observed. In fact very little mating behavior observed the week before. Also had a number of females in tent with milkweed and found no eggs. Now one week later 8-26-04, and 8-27-04 warm 80's humid, sunny much mating behavior observed (chasing, and coupling) Now finding many eggs. cool today 8-28-04 some monarchs nectaring. Could cooler weather trigger reproductive monarchs to temporarily cease reproductive behavior and then resume when warmer? Our whole summer here was quite cool.
