Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/29/2004

Number: 1

Over the weekend, several people reported seeing groups of 15 - 20 monarchs in
their trees. These are people that let us tag in the yards each year.
We get a lot of monarchs (from 100 to several thousand) roosting in
these yards for 1 to 2 weeks before the migration starts. Although the
number oif butterflies of all species are way below normal, these
monarch numbers seem to be quite normal for this time of the season.
