We saw over 70 monarchs on Monday, September 6 at Grandview Prairie in Hempstead County, Arkansas (about 30 miles northeast of Texarkana). Several females were laying eggs on A. virdis and Sand Vine. None of the monarchs we saw seemed to be migrating. They were busy nectaring and/or laying eggs. We have had an unusually large number of monarchs in our area for this time of year. We have had several females lay eggs in our Outdoor Classroom and have brought many into different classrooms in our school for the students to observe. Our summer has been very mild and wet so maybe this has something to do with the number of monarchs we are seeing.
