Each year on Labor Day, I visit the same field where there is a good deal of milkweed, generally young and tender from haying in the field earlier in the summer. Sometimes I find four or five monarch larvae for my classroom and sometimes none. With Labor Day being late, I did not expect to find any but I did find just one. It began to "wander" Thursday and entered the pupa stage today (09/10/04).
