Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/09/2004

Number: 1

I have been collecting eggs and larva again this season in the milkweed patches growing in my yard. The first sightings of adults were about 1 month later than last year. There were considerably fewer numbers this year.
My 24 third grade students have each had a larva to care for to adulthood. We released a total of 4 adults this past week. Three were males and one was a female. Most of the collected larvae are in the chrysalis stage now.
I have had an unusual happening in the last week, though. I have begun to find 1st stage instars again in my milkweed. What is happening? Isn't the season almost over? Will these adults be able to migrate successfully to Mexico?
