Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/26/2004

Number: 1

I read with interest the observation from Ontario. After three
weeks of looking for monarchs to tag and finding few, we are finally
seeing them today in strong numbers along the south Lake Erie shore in
our favorite goldenrod/aster tagging fields. This is late for us, and
surely not as heavy a migration as last year. In the ten years or so
that I have been tagging, I have never recaptured a tagged monarch
originating in Canada. I tagged about 40 in an hour this afternoon, but
our total at this time last year was well over 400!
