Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/09/2004

Number: 1

I live near Montreal and own about 100acres of mixed meadow, marsh,
and forest in Hemmingford, which is about a 40 mile drive from Montreal
and is right on the U.S. border.
I am a working nature photographer and make the drive to Hemmingford
about 2-3 times a week.
I just wanted to put it on record that this entire season has passed
without even a single Monarch sighting, the first in my life.
Checking loose records for the past three years indicates that even
on a bad day this trip would result in sightings of a half dozen Monarchs
on the property and 10-15 on the drive. Good days saw that total rise
dramatically with the drive sometimes having totals in excess of
75 specimens.
Sad to note that this year was a total writeoff!
