Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/12/2004

Number: 1

Our family was hiking (Geocaching and learning about altitude, latitude and longitude with our new GPS) at Ute Pass near Pike's Peak and we saw 5 Monrarchs. Then on our return hike we saw 3 more. They were drinking nectar from the flowers around us. All of them flew south. They were flying fast. We've been watching for Monarchs for months with no sitings and were very excited to see them. Then, when we got home to Colorado Springs, we saw another Monarch on the butterfly bush in our backyard! They've arrived in Colorado!
