The postings from the states east of us along the Gulf coast
is good news ... there may be still some monarchs heading for the
"coastal flyway" in Texas.
The best so far was about ten days ago ... there were 15 monarchs
sighted down here over a time of about an hour and a half. Last
weekend and this weekend at the usual flight location across Lavaca Bay
from Port Lavaca the count was zero. This was for seven trips across
the Lavaca Bay Causeway and checking the wildflowers along the approach
peninsula to the causeway.
There have been records set as to high temperatures, in the low to mid
90's, with strong SW to SE winds. The first change is expected this
weekend, "wet and cool" in by Monday. We have always said the
Coastal flyway is the strongest after the first front after
October 25th ... we will see what happens the next week to ten
days now.
