Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/24/2004

Number: 1

I am observing at Arcadia Park, near my house, but I see some monarchs roosting in a tree that is just outside of the trail I have seen them on before. The tree is closer to the actual park, but the area is pretty quiet, so I assume that is why I found them here, and I probably would not closer to the playground. There are not many, but the ones that I do see are in the tree, so I am assuming it is to eat or because it is their habitat in the winter to be near covered trees. It is 1:22pm and two of the monarchs near the tree look like they are attached to one another, and are flying low to the ground so I do not know if they are mating, or fighting. I thought that the monarchs mate in the spring, so I do not know if that would happen in October, but it looks like they are attached. It is 1:25pm, and the two monarchs are not attached anymore, and one of them flew back up towards the tree, but I do not know where the other one flew to. There are still monarchs roosting in the tree,
