Signs of Fall

Date: 12/25/2004

Number: 1

I reported a sighting of a male Bald Eagle over Syracuse in Feb 2000 or possibly 2001. This second sighting occurred at our new surroundings on Christmas day, and within the center of this developed community just a few miles out of the Syracuse proper. The eagle was 75' to 100' aloft coming straight at me from due east just over the tree line.

When it spotted me it turned S in a glide and then drifted SE without any flapping of wings. Because of the time of day 09:30 with the Sun coming thru low clouds all I could see was a silouette. I was unable to determine if it was male or female, Bald or Golden. But for certain it was an Eagle.

What a great present on Christmas Day, thank to all of you expert Birders for helping to return this magnificent bird to our backyards. Amazing.
