Today I had recess duty, watching over the children as they went sledding down the hill by the school. It was a gray but somewhat warmer day than we've had lately (about 22 degrees). A flock of perhaps 150 birds flew over us--robins! They were in a hurry, but I caught up to where a few had settled momentarily, heard their chirping, made a definite identification, and then watched as they flew on. This is the earliest I can remember seeing a wave of robins. Also, I hadn't noticed any individuals settlling around first, as usually happens. A big wave, all at once, as the first sighting!
