1/28/05 An entire flock of Robins was hopping and fluttering about searching for food outside my son's middle school just 12 feet from my car. I was astonished to see them as it was well below freezing - maybe 19 degrees. We had just had a blizzard two days beforehand which left everything covered with deep snow that had frozen pretty hard. All the trees and bushes were covered with what looked like thick frosting. It was mid morning as I watched them moving as a group across the small, densely planted school arboretum diligently searching the shrubs and trees as well as under them for anything to eat. They looked very cold and were all puffed up to twice their sizes. There were easily a dozen, maybe more. I had never seen so many together before. I was not able to count all of them as they moved away nervously as I approached my car.
