Today, for the first time this year, I have seen a flock of robins in my back yard. This is wonderful, and most unusual. With so few swallows in my neighborhood, I gauge the arrival of spring by the appearance of robins, and they usually show up in late February. Seeing them so early in the year is unusual, especially because it's been very cold in northern Virginia in the past two weeks.
