Today our first 3 Journey North tulips emerged. Hazaa! It took approximately 41 days for our first tulips to emerge. Winter in our geographic area of Oregon has been fairly cool and mild this year. The temperature this morning in Lebanon was a chilly 25 degrees Fahrenheit / -3.8 Celsius.

As part of our Journey North tulip study, we have been actively recording and graphing the weekday air and soil temperatures for our tulip research area. We predicted that the average soil temperature in our study area would be approximately 50 degree Fahrenheit/ 10 degree Celsius when our tulips first began to emerge. The actual soil temperature average for our study area when our tulips began to emerge was 43.5 degrees Fahrenheit/ 6.38 degrees Celsius. We predicted that the average air temperature in our study area would be approximately 50 degrees Fahrenheit / 10 degrees Celsius.
