On the way home at the north end of Arkansas City, the largest flock I have
ever seen in my life was making tracks south as fast as they could go. When
I first saw them at 252nd Rd and Hwy 77, they were visible as far south as
the horizon, and they passed by my position for over 30 minutes (about
5:20-5:50), and were still visible as far north as the horizon when I had to
pack it in and head home. As near as I could tell they were Red-winged
Blackbirds, but there also appeared to be mixed in some other birds I could
not ID for certain (Grackles or Cowbirds I assume?). It was a spectacular
show, and they must have numbered in the millions!
