Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 01/15/2005

Number: 1

In mid January, on a frigid day that was about 20 degrees here in Ocean City, NJ, my American Holly tree became the local dining hall for 50-60 Robins and many Starlings. They were puffed up against the cold wind looking twice their size. For 2 days they ate every single red berry on my 25 ft. Holly. Red splattered droppings covered everything on my front porch, but I was thrilled to see them get their fill especially when so cold. Our neighborhood has lost seven old maritime Hollies in the past 4 years due to development. All those berries are gone for the birds. But our tree provides some food and we are happy to help our bird friends.
