All Other Signs of Spring

At 5pm on March 12, 2005, I saw a pair of Snow Geese, Chen caerulescens, in the Yahara River, where it meets Lake Monona, in Madison, Wisconsin. There were some mallard ducks nearby, which helped me judge the size of the two geese. The geese were larger than the mallards, but smaller than the Canada geese that we often see around here. One of the geese was mostly white, & the other had some grey in the wing feathers. To my knowledge, these geese are rarely seen in Madison.
