Maple Syrup (FIRST Sap Run)

Date: 03/11/2005

Number: 1

Yippee!! the sap is running in Madoc. The taps went in on Saturday March 11 and we are just finishing off our first syrup on Tuesday March 15. Our Madoc maple syrup is made the "old" way - with buckets, spiles, and an open pan with a wood fire. The weather last night was perfect for boiling sap - clear, starry night, with just a hint of the moon and -8C. We have 70 taps in this year because we don't think that sap season will last long- there is almost no snow left in the bush. The weather for this week is predicted to be sunny and with highs of +2 and 3... perfect! I'm glad it is March break and there's no school (now I can stay up all night by the fire). Happy tapping.
