Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/15/2005

Number: 1

I 'just' this minute stepped outside and saw my first monarch of the season, right in my own backyard! (2:15 pm)
I currently have over a dozen milkweed plants loaded with buds and ready to bloom. My plants are 1.5-2.3 frrt tall. I trimmed my last-years plants back to about 8" tall, just after the last crysalis opened, which, believe it or not was JANUARY!

We had record setting rainfall this winter, so everything's growing like...well, weeds! Now that we're finally seeing the sun on a fairly regular basis, the milkweed is ready to burst into bloom.

Last year was our first attempt at raising monarchs (just for fun). My kids and I have been anxiously awaiting the return of the monarchs this year in hopes of witnessing the life cycle again.
