This is the first time we've seen a Bald Eagle in the area of our summer home. We went up from RI this weekend and snowshoed on the pond -no open water at all - and were surprised to see one land in a tree on the shore. I took a photo with a high resolution digital camera and wasn't sure what we were looking at - didn't seem likely that an eagle would be on a pond that was completely iced over with several feet of snow on it. We checked out the photo and made the positive ID.
