Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/22/2005

Number: 1

While I was getting "report card things" together in the classroom to take home at 3:20, Altus was out in the car waiting for me. Suddenly, she had the opportunity to observe a monarch approach from the SSW, hesitate when it got to the south facing brick wall of the main building, and finally fly up and over on a heading generally to the north. She said the flight was rapid and dedicated with the monarch's three to five strong beats and then a short glide. We are now seeing a good amount of blooming Asclepias viridis in Victoria and Calhoun Counties here along the Texas mid coast, even some inside the city limits of Victoria.
