Three years ago we had a Anna's hummingbird build a nest on our patio. She has decided to return every year. SInce that first year we have hung 5 feeders around our yard and have plant numerous plants to keep her happy and well fed. Because she tends to come early in the year, I have tried to plant bushes that would bloom before she came home. Last year we planted a new Butterfly Bush next to the Lilac and the Cape Honeysuckle. WE also have a navel orange, Meyer's Lemon, Blood orange and a lime tree. CLoser to the nesting area we have a Jasmine and Jessamine. They tend to start blooming after the babies are hatched.
SHe has graced us with letting us check on the babies almost daily and she will allow us to get near her nest without leaving. It's been fun and educational at the same time.
