Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/23/2005

Number: 1

They're back!!! The red-wings have returned to the ponds behind the shed. It's Wednesday March 23 and it's early morning and I'm just adding more wood to the maple syrup fire. The sky today is overcast and it's -6C here on the farm. One of my most favourite spring sounds is the red-winged blackbirds. The pond is still covered in a thin layer of ice, but we have had ducks and a couple of canada geese stop by to dabble around in the spring runoff. The weather this past week has been excellent with sunny days (about +4C) and cool nights (-6 to -10C).
