Temps in the mid-40's, snow patches lay like leftover bread crusts on the drab umber fields. Fresh sunshine tickles the maple trees buds into blushing. Wild apple trees show warm tones along their trunks from rising sap. Layers of birdsong weave warm notes over the sleeping landscape. Redwing blackbirds speak in throaty liquid notes that tumble and gurgle, nearby. White throat sparrows, cardinals, bluebirds, fox sparrows, chickadees, woodpeckers, knit the fabric together as distant geese, crows and sandhill cranes add bright stitches. A tapestry of warm birdsong to thaw winter's quiet, frosty grip.
