Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 03/24/2005

Number: 1

Today, was a day of singing birds! Temperature hovered just above 40 degrees. The bright sun made the lingering piles of crusty snow weep. An hour before sunset, while filling bird feeders, I watched 5 or 6 robins scurried out from under the blue spruce. Noisy, combative - they chased one another around huge mole hills that rise like a mountain range in front of our house. Earthworms rising or at least the grubs? The robins were busy scratching like chickens in the mole turned soil as the sunset put edges of glowing gold the slopes of the Great Smoky Mole Hills. Next morning, not a single robin! Officially, I can say that I've seen my first "wave" as they migrate further north.
