As I reported on the "MONARCH OTHER" site yesterday I counted with great difficulty over 1000 butterflies going over my patio in ten minutes time (between hours of 12 Noon and 1 PM). I know that I missed some in the count because in some cases a "cloud" of butterflies went over at one time, too numerous to accurately count. In my first report I said that they were of the Painted Lady variety and certainly not Monarch. In my second report, I specified that I did not believe that this migration was of the Painted Lady species, and again, certainly not Monarch. They were rather small, mid-sized butterfilies with a great amount of yellow on their wings and not appearing to be either Painted Ladies or Monarch. Today here in Covina they were still going over in the same quantities as yesterday. They are very fast, and against a slate-blue sky they are difficult to see as far as detail.
