THIRD REPORT: This morning in Covina was damp and chilly with a light rain. Later, the skies were patchy blue and a good breeze was blowing. The butterfly migration continued, and three landed in my patio (at different times) within a few feet of me. It was easy to tell that they were of the Painted Lady species with the tell-tale markings on their inner wings. This is contrary to my second report where I was of the opinion that they were not Painted Ladies. My mistake is when they are "scooting past" very quickly it appears that their outer wings have primarily a yellow cast. I blame this on the difficulty in seeing them with any resolution. They are definitely Painted Ladies.
