Latitude and longitude would confuse this report. We took a roadtrip from Marne to Drummond Island on Saturday - way up across Da' Bridge to the Yooper Peninsula's east end. (Our state has a split personality - people under the bridge, are known as Trolls those above are Yoopers.....) Spring retreated nearly a week's worth each 100 miles we went north. Near Houghton Lake, I saw blue herons swooping around a line of leafless trees, each had a huge nest poof in a odd up and down pattern almost cartoonlike. We left Marne amid singing redwing blackbirds and bouncing robins to find Lake Huron lakeshores and bays thick frozen with blue ice. Snow lay 2' deep in the woods along Rt. 134 to DeTour, MI. Deer and ravens lined the roadways - present deer tugged at vegetation in thawed areas. Ravens tugged at past deer, Yooper definition: a smear of deer. Life is constant cycle!
