My students spotted a monarch butterfly yesterday at recess (3/31). She
was laying eggs on the milkweed.
In mid Dec. I also spotted a butterfly laying eggs in my yard on the
tropical (mexican) milkweed I had in a pot. Every time it was going to
freeze, I put the plant in the garage. The caterpillars took longer
than usual to become chrysalis and stayed in that state much longer as
well. I had four butterflies emerge in mid Feb.
