Friday, April 1,2005 about 3pm I was in my garden and found myself in the middle of hundreds of Monarch butterflies---all flying north. They were not stopping on any flowers. They were flying as though they had a mission. I watched them for most of an hour---they just kept coming and coming. The past 3 days I have seen dozens more. Is this an exceptional year for Monarchs? We have had 130% of our normal rain--has that triggerd a Monarch population explosion?
