Every year loons nest and raise chicks on Rogers Lake, west of Kila, Montana. Tne nesting pair usually returns in early April. This year I spotted them for the first time the morning of April 6. No one else living on the Lake spotted them earlier than this, so it appears that they arrived here back from the coast late the 5th or early on the 6th. They spent most of the 6th feeding. By the 7th they were spending more time swimming about. The pair that nested here last year was the same pair that nested here the year before. We know, because the year before they were banded. I have not been able to see whether the pair that has just arrived this year has bands. We will keep looking to determine this.
