Strong east winds have pushed the fire index very high, no rain is forcast till next week. Morning temps hover around freezing bumping into the 60's by midafternoon. The robins are quiet, busy stalking worms instead of singing. Ka-Ching, head blackbird, is trying to teach a group of 6 blackbird gents, how to get onto a tricky swinging feeder. They sit in a colorful row onthe dogrun's toprail watching his demo. He's been kingpin for 4 years, wonder how long they live. Haven't noticed any lady blackbirds around. I flushed woodcocks while walking the trails tonight. Large, round birds with huge bills and beaks, they potter about the boggy parts of the meadow, busy competing with the robins for worms. We usually have around 8 summer here.
