Took a daytrip to the Middlebury area of Northern Indiana. Surprise!Spring is only about a week ahead of our area. Usually a 100 miles makes more of a difference. The Amish were busy plowing the fields. The shaggy horses indicate the cold weather has only just broken like back home. Often 4 & 5 horse hitches, stood head down, heavy coats matted with sweat. Often tiny Amish kids, dressed in bright colors with black jackets with black hats or bonnets, stood holding the reins of the lead horses. The massive animals dwarfed their tiny handlers as they were rested to avoid overheating. Only a few daffodils and early tulips open in a sheltered ravine in the Krider Gardens. There were some helleborus and bloodroots just coming into bloom. At the David Rogers County Park near LaGrange, we opened a cabin door to discover a frantic female wood duck. Evidently, she had come down the new chimney looking for a nesting cavity. After some serious bumps into the windows, we got her out the door. Saw
