I don't remember seeing any monarchs overwintering but I did see my
first one last week (approx. April 15)! I remember thinking that it was a bit early. We
have a garden at our school in front of the library and I think it
attracted them.
I know it wasn't a Painted Lady but I wasn't close enough to really be 100% sure it was a Monarch. It's size was too large for the painted lady but it could possibly have been a viceroy? It had the white dots along the wing edge. I only saw one, so it didn't seem to be with a group.
I'll keep checking. The late cold front will not be good for migration!
