Tulips BLOOMED

Students have marched out to our school garden daily to observe and record data about their tulip. We have been anxious as the weather has turned cold and snow has fallen. We noticed the buds turning from a pale pinkish-red to a deeper color as the days warmed and the sky cleared. Our first bloom was sighted on Tuesday, April 19, 2005. Envious eyes pleaded for the other tall plants to join in the wave of red. Since then each visit has had more red blossoms. We noted that the average growth of the plant was about an inch before blooming. Now this has slowed down a little. We predict that the flowers will last about a month. So far we have had two more snowy days and the tips of the pedals are showing signs of frost-like damage. The tulips are coming in handy in other ways, too. Our Mother's Day cards will have a photo of our tulips as a decoration on the cover. The flowers were also a beautiful sight during our Arbor Day celebration when the school planted a tree.
