In New Orleans our Asclepias curassavica never froze back so we observed Monarch larvae all winter. Adults were not numerous, but I would hear of one or more on warm sunny days. We have been in the field only once (First week of April) and saw no native milkweed. Spraying by truck for Buckmoth caterpillars and by plane for mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus has apparently stopped butterfly flight this past week, though we still have chrysalids hanging.
