Wow - busy night around the yard for first sightings of the season! A pair of house wrens have claimed one of the new wren houses and were very busy flying around the yard collecting nesting materials. Sighted 8 palm warblers on the feeders this evening. A pair of green herons roosted in the trees near the pond, and we spotted our first batch of mallard ducklings for the year.
We also came across a VERY large (shell easily @ 3ft across) female snapping turtle laying eggs in the back of the yard...we are hopeful that she will not be feeding on the ducklings!
