Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/08/2005

Number: 1

A nest creation in a near by cedar hedge by a robin.

A curiosity to me being so close to my apartment patio and neighbouring cat that I enjoyed watching this nesting ritual take place over the course of a few days.

The point of which being the robin starts off, after the basic floor and walls are formed to soften the inside. This she takes her grey feathers from under her wing at first, she lowers her self in the nest, removes the feathers with her legs and then in a clockwise motion at 1 inch intervals repeats this until unsafe to do so, fly’s away.

Upon her return I noticed that to remove the older grey feathers from her hind quarters, this she does in a counter clockwise matter, 1 inch intervals, lowers herself, removes the feathers and repeats 3 - 4 times then again clockwise twice.

It appeared then she would obtain dirt/mud to secure the feathers in place and then repeat only after her security was assured.
