I was so excited to see my first adult, female Monarch this spring. She was busy drinking the juices of some recently deposited puppy poop on my driveway. She looked brand new and glided off when I got too close for comfort.
I have been rearing and tagging Monarchs for over 3 years. I taught my students about Monachs and they reared them and released them.
And I have to say I was surprised to see this one working on the pile of puppy scatl But I walked over to the scat location and looked at the butterlflies (there were 2...the other a dark, large butterfly), and noted the black veins and that there was no pouch and i assumed that it was a female probably headed for the milkweed in my garden.
