I have a butterfly garden that is dedicated strictly to host and nectar plants of several butterflies. I have many common milkweed plants Asclepsia syriaca growing in it.
Last Monday, May 9, 2005 I searched the bed and did not see any plants coming up.
On Friday, May 14, 2005 I saw about 6 plants that had broken ground and were from 3-7 inches tall already. When I moved mulch I found many more that were ready to break through. This is a little early for me. I usually do not find milkweed before Memorial Day.
I have planted some other varieties of milkweed in the past but have found that I have the best luck with syriaca.
