Just a note about a school Monarch release. On Friday,
May 13, at Washington School in Summit, NJ (Union
County, just off Route 24 and near I-78) we released 7
females and 9 males raised from caterpillars ordered from
Monarch Watch. Actually they were shipped from Florida.
The females had already laid many eggs on the A.
currassavica in our screen house rearing tent. Since we
have a limited supply of milkweed for any caterpillars that
mayemerge and the wild milkweed is already up 4-6", I
thought it best to let the females find A. syriaca that I know
is growing in the neighborhood.
