Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/19/2005

Number: 1

What a wonderful day I've had today Thursday May 19, 2005. I put my 4 Gardenmeister Fuchsias and 8 Cuphea ignea Davids out from the warmth of the garage at about 9:35 AM. By 9:50 AM I had my first visitor of the season. A female Ruby-throated hummingbird. A moment later she was joined by my second visitor of this season, another female Ruby-throated!

They chased one another around and fed from both the Fuchsia and my feeders all morning long. By the afternoon it looked like one of them had won the yard. Then I left for a few hours and went to see Star Wars Episode III. It was awesome!

When I returned home I was quickly greeted by the little female who was on the Trumpet Vine branches nearby. She fed a couple times from the feeders and then it grew dark. I brought the flowers back into the garage for the night and we get to begin again tomorrow morning. I look forward to it!

I hope everyone who hasn't had their visitors return yet gets them soon. Good Luck!
