My brother had collected almost 90 eggs at the farm. He was watching closely for first butterfly/egg. But the weather forecast was for freezing temps at night again, so when he found them, he collected all he could get. He saw no caterpillars on this 'inspection', only eggs, which he brought home and set up in his 'nursery' in the dining room. (We've been 'Monarch Watchers' almost since the beginning of the website.) I know he had been feeding the cats for at least a week before I got some...perhaps, even 10 days. He had called and left a message on my machine: "I found about 90 eggs on the milkweed today!!! Got them all because it's going to freeze. They're back!!!" That was mid-week, so I'd say he found them around April 28.
No eggs on MY milkweed at my house yet in the middle of the city or at school. But we put the females on the milkweed today and they stayed for 15 minutes or so, checking it out. Maybe they got the idea and will leave us some before they head of
