Oriole (1st Baltimore)

Date: 05/24/2005

Number: 1

The first sighting I had was of an orange bird with black head and a curved beak who came to my front door, lit on the storm door chirping loudly and pecked on the door. I did not know what it was as I have not seen one of his kind before.

I went to the internet to see if I could identify the bird. At first I thought it was a hooded Oriole. I had seen photos on the sights of an Oriole drinking from a Hummingbird feeder so I went to my Garden center to get one hoping he would stay. Instead I purchased an Oriole feeder and there on the box was a photo of my bird. He is a Baltimore.

Later in the day today I saw his mate. She was on the frame that a climatis vine is running on.

I was persistant and finally got some photos of him. I have yet to get one of her.

The male comes to my Bow window, peeks in and chirps loudly. He is very entertaining. He also goes to the door in back of the garage and peeks in.

Once I had hung the feeder he was on it within thirty minutes drinking
