Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/01/2005

Number: 1

The
Monarch fed on Dandelions for 20 minutes, then flew on. Photo of underwing
was taken. The species is not known to overwinter in Nova Scotia, and as a migrant it
is unusually early, far ahead of the vanguard. It appeared on the second
day of sunshine following a period of 21 straight days of cloud and rain. (Click on image to enlarge.)
