Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/08/2005

Number: 1

Janis Miller, horticulture staff, showed me the first monarch eggs laid in our Virginia Living Museum's Children's Learning Garden on Common Milkweeds. I and another staff member had seen a monarch alighting on the milkweeds on 6/7/05 but we weren't sure if it was a female or not. The flowers were not quite open and it seemed to be nectaring more than ovipositing.
